SOAP

I am reading from The Divine Mentor reading plan and Soap Journaling each day. If you’re looking for a Bible Reading Plan, check out my blog post with 15 reading plans to choose from. You can also join our year of grace bible reading group, join any time!

Today I read Genesis 12-14 and Luke 5.

S: Scripture

Luke 5:26
And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, “We have seen strange things today!”

O: Observation

Jesus has been announced to be in caperneum and people have gathered from all over to see Him in hopes of being healed. The crowd is very large and there is a group of men who want their paralyzed friend to be healed. They believe so deeply if they can get near to Jesus, that their friend will be healed. The only way to do that is to go into the building that Jesus is inside (and crowded in with people), is to go through the roof. Jesus is amazed by their faith and determination, and says this man’s faith is great and his sins are forgiven. To that, the Pharisees are upset that Jesus is claiming to forgive sins, so Jesus upsets them even more by proving He is God by instantly healing the paralyzed man. V 26 is the end of this story, with their statement of awe.

A: Application

We see great faith and belief here. We need to have faith that is as strong as the crowd around Jesus, and even more, the faith of the paralyzed man and his group who carried him.

P: Prayer

Lord, thank you for your examples of great faith and stories of Jesus in your word. I pray that you increase our faith to believe your promises. Help us to keep your word in our hearts. I pray that you remind us to not be critical like the religious Pharisees that critiqued every (holy) move of Jesus. But rather, let us be like the star struck sinners who Jesus stood by during his lifetime.

I pray you change our hearts and minds.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen
