Wednesday January 11th, 2017- Esau’s blessing is stolen

Today I am sharing quickly as I am running out of time. So much is happening in each day of reading and the Bible is full of REALLY GOOD DRAMA! Wow. So, today I was reading through Genesis 27-28, Psalm 4 and Luke 11. It’s so hard to just choose on verse to SOAP because I could go choose ten… but I’m committed to only verse per day to journal. Today I chose

S: SCRIPTURE

Genesis 27:34

When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me—me also, O my father!”

O:OBSERVATION

Wow. It’s hard to summarize this family drama up! Isaac is dying told his son Esau to go hunting and bring him some food back for him to eat, and he will give Esau his blessing. While Esau is gone, Rebekah (their mother, Isaac’s wife), told her other son Jacob, to trick his father by hunting and she would cook the food so he could receive his brothers blessing. Jacob questioned his mother, but she insisted. So he did as he was told. He hunts, she cooks, Isaac eats and gives his blessing to Jacob. Isaac questioned him, but Jacob went to lengthy measures to trick his father (like placing animal hides on his hands and neck to be hairy like his brother).  Then Esau comes back. Esau realizes his blessing has been given. He is angry.

A: Application

Family drama has been around forever. As soon as the fall happened we had family sin. We can learn from this story that we need to pray and listen to God for our advice instead of the skewed ideas of those around us.

P: Prayer

Lord,

Thank you for your word. Thank you for meeting us each day. My prayer is simple today. Help us to listen to your voice above all others. Forgive us when we look to others instead of praying. Bless us, Lord.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
