Here is my SOAP journal from today
But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name
Be joyful in You.
For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;
With favor You will surround him as with a shield.
The psalmist is reflecting upon the goodness of God and his guidance. Psalm 5 is notated as “a prayer for guidance”. The beginning of the psalm asks God to “give ear to my words, consider my mediation”, and goes on to say qualities of the Lord. That he hears, he listens, he hates workers of iniquity and does not take pleasure in wickedness or evil. The psalmist takes time to exalt the Lord and examine His qualities. He ends with my favorite part, reflecting on the joy and praise of those who trust in the Lord and His protection.
I love the poetry of the psalms. It reminds me to reflect on the qualities of our Holy God and all He has done and will do for those who trust in Him. May we take time to reflect on His immeasurable goodness. When we do that, we will inevitably be filled with praise!
Lord, I trust in you, let me rejoice. I know you defend me, so I praise your name and shout for joy. I love your name and all you do, let me be filled with your joy and let that overflow into my daily actions. You bless the riteous, let me follow your lead in the steps of righteousness. You give me favor and surround me with a shield, let me praise your name for my protection and favor. Let me meditate on these things to be filled with praise.
In Jesus’ name,
